3 Tips to create the best business card
Done properly, your personal card is an excellent way to establish business with potential customers. The following tips will help you to create the best business card possible.
However, first we need to learn some basic terms, relating to business cards:
- CMYK ("C" - Cyan, "M" - Magenta, "Y" - Yellow, "K" - Black) is a typical printing process, based on printing inks used in 4-color process printing.
- RGB (red, green, and blue) is another type of color profile.
- Full bleed means a type of printing when ink covers the whole area of the final product. To achieve this, the image is printed in a larger size and then the excessive remnants are cut to make the normal size. This may cost extra depending on your printing for other printers.
- DPI (dots per inch) is a measurement of the ability of a computer screen or printer to produce a clear image.
So, let's get down to creating your perfect business card. You need to:
1. Look for the design that's the best for you.
Try to choose a design you like and what you think will attract your customers. Consider the distinguishing features of your business and include them in your business card unique design. You should:
- Decide what you want your personal card to be associated with. For example, do you want it to look persuasive, modern or elegant?
- Look at what designs your competing companies are using. This will help you both to avoid looking the same as your rivals and to arise your creativity.
- Think what colors will be the most suitable. It is very important because various colors call to mind different feelings. For example, black can be seen as the color of authority and seriousness, while white symbolizes cleanliness, simplicity and peace.
2. Keep in mind that some colors look different on the screen than in reality.
The problem is that computer color space is different from that seen on printed materials. Computer screen uses RGB color space, and a good final printed result is seen in CMYK color space. In printed materials, the RGB color combination cannot be reproduced exactly, so computer-processed images must be changed into the CMYK equivalent in ink colors, which do not always look the same. This creates a kind of contrast.
3. Choose proper resolution.
If you want your business card to be printed correctly choose an image that is 600 DPI at a size with bleed included. Though an image as low as 300 DPI can still have a good quality it may look indistinct. It is in your best interests to have business cards with the highest quality of prints.
